BioPV set out to integrate techno-economic, ecological, and social dimensions to develop a comprehensive planning framework for ground-mounted photovoltaics (GMPV) in Alpine biosphere reserves, addressing the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. The project aimed to generate usable, policy-relevant knowledge through inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration, with transferability to other mountainous regions and strong dissemination to scientific and non-scientific audiences. Core goals included: modelling robust, spatially explicit GMPV potentials for Austria; producing ecological siting criteria and monitoring recommendations; and incorporating social acceptance and energy justice into siting and design through participatory and collaborative planning methods.
